A Ban on Advertising

Post by Dio on Thu Oct 09, 2008 4:23 am

it has come to my attention that recently an incident occurd on BA.org that got a member into a bit of trouble. it brought down the mods and they have brought it to our attention that PM-ing advertisements is wrong. how they check all this i dont know and it does seem to be an invasion of privacy but it is their forum and those are their rules.
i must insist that now no advertising be done by any of the members on another forum lest they get a similar punishment. PM, VM, and public posting is out of the question. So for the sake of your accounts on other forums leave all advertising to the staff.
any member caught advertising shall be delt with by both the forum staff and the forums staff they advertised on.

thank you for your patience

~Dio

There is a way for most site Admin control panels to read the PMs of any member they wish. It is used to check for flaming and harassment, those sorts of things (or advertising) if it has been reported, though yes, if used incorrectly it can be considered an invasion of privacy. Well that stinks. We will have to find other ways to get the site name out there. Be creative people!

uh the whole idea of that above pst was to re enforce the statement NO MORE ADVERTISING.
any form of unautherised advertising will result in infractions and/or bans on most other sites.
so let me say it again DO NOT ADVERTISE BW.

It would be more clear that you are advertising other site if you use that way.

I though Riku already announce that no advertising is allowed on other site(especially BA) Neutral

There was a case where some peoples get infracted for doing this (which names I wont say here) not really a long time ago. So guys, for the sake of your account in the other forums, beware and dont advertise BW there.

The mods got too many ways to find what is happening in their forum even in PM.

Not advertising on any site is stupid, no offense. Advertising on other Bleach oriented sites is obviously not a good idea. If you don't advertise at all though, where are you going to get new members? Word of mouth works well but not well enough. You need to create partnerships with other sites, especially RPGs not related to Bleach, in order to gain new members. That is why I mentioned about creating buttons and stuff for advertising on the other site. If you agree to advertise other sites on your own, they will in return advertise yours by showcasing one of the buttons for the site. I don't know how to explain it any better. Anyone who has ever been on an RP based site has seen this and knows about it.

If you own the websites, why would you take the adverts down? It is your site to do with as you please. No one will yell at you for it. I think googleadds might be a good idea.

hmm depends. Whatever site you are on, I always suggest reading their rules really carefully. If they don't mind advertising, it won't say anything. If you are going to advertise and their rules do say something about it, I would ask an admin/mod first.

See, that is a start too! Also, you can start groups and the like on sites like that devoted to sites like ours. That sometimes draws people in.

Yup, Myspace and Facebook is a good idea (better if you have enough Bleach Fans visiting them...)

Also if some people here are used to going in other forum sites (anime or not) and can get a way for Admins of both site forum to do partnership. each would put the other's site forum's advertisement. ive done that with many when i used to have a site forum and it actually worked!

The admin/super-mods on BA can filter through the PM's of every user...so yeah, they can check stuff even after you delete it.

wow, thats new info for me XD (adds to info database in brain)

so then there's basically no way to advertise safely besides having things like sister sites and brother sites? (well, the basic and easiest to do ones)
